The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most popular basketball teams in the NBA (National Basketball Association) today. Having led the Western division to victory in the 2004 All-Star championships, the LA Lakers have featured impressive athletes like Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson and many shooting stars.History of the Los Angeles Lakers. That’s right - when you look back at the grainy black and white pictures of the Minneapolis (not yet Los Angeles) Lakers, it’s hard to believe that the team would achieve the significance that it has today.
They started out in the late 1940’s, with George Mikan at the helm, and since then through a series of ups and downs have come to be known as one of the most revered, awe-inspiring and victorious teams in the National Basketball League.

In the 1986 to 1987 season Magic Johnson got the MVP - Most Valuable Player - award when he not only eclipsed the legendary Kareem Abdul Jabbar but went on to earn superb points per game counts and therefore bring about a winning season that brought the Lakers the Championship.
In the mid to late nineties, another star emerged. Shaq. He and Coby Bryant have made the Lakers’ recent history dazzling and competitive.
